In the mid-2000s I made a range of 3D emoji for an advertisement campaign.
The emoji caught the attention of a Canadian amusement center called Funhaven. They approached me, and an orange version of this zany emoji became their logo. They're still using it:

Custom emoji should be able to have alt-text. What screen-readers see is usually just the emoji's code, but it'd be nice to have something descriptive like with native emoji.
This (
) is "Thinking Face", but this (
) is just "colon-thonk-colon" instead of something like "distorted thinking face", if we had a field for that in the custom emoji creation UI.
IDK how implementation for something like this would work in fedi though.
Why is there no browser API to trigger native emoji picker? I seriously despise custom emojis, but I do love to use emojis as graphical beautifiers everywhere. If users would have an _easy_ (no OSX ctrl+cmd+space is _not_ easy) way to trigger & pick emojis, this would solve so many problems.

Kyseessä on hyvin vanha käsimerkki. Merkin tarkoitus on ilmaista "I love you" tai "love you". Sanojen ensimmäiset alkukirjaimet sormitetaan samanaikaisesti sormiaakkosina eli I, L ja Y.
Käsimerkin historia on pitkä, se ulottuu 1900-luvun tienoolle ja on tullut alkujaan amerikkalaisesta viittomakielestä. Kyseinen käsimerkki on levinnyt viime vuosikymmeninä sosiaalisen median kautta laajasti yleiseen käyttöön ympäri maailmaa. Tätä käytetään myös täällä meillä Suomessakin viittomakielisten kesken.
