For #InternationalWomensDay , I want to talk about the sexism in #AvatarTheLastAirbender . It definitely exists. It has been called out. But I'm OK with Sokka starting out as a little shit who tasks his sister with washing his socks, because you know what happens? He meets Suki, eats shit when she kicks his ass, gets better, and in the end, gets her as an awesome girlfriend.
This is a message I want guys to take home. You don't get less manly by listening to a woman even in what you perceive as a "manly" domain. Even #ToxicMasculinity is, I feel, a misnomer. While it is definitely toxic, it is also a whole lot more anxious. Anxious to lose status, anxious to be perceived less masculine. Don't be. You're as much of a man after listening to a woman as before.
And in the end, you'll be a better one, and your chances to be with a strong, beautiful, badass woman will definitely rise. Because they won't put up with a toxic piece of shit who'd listen to the anonymous opinion of men they don't know over the opinion of a partner who is right beside them. You get something better than control by not being toxic about your masculinity. You'll get loyalty from a partner at eye level.

I've Finished: The Gate to Women's Country by Sheri S. Tepper
On one hand, The Gate to Woman's Country is a product of its time. Dealing with the aftermath of world war III. On the other hand, toxic masculinity is as relevant as ever.
In dialogue with the Iliad, Tepper Imagines a woman lead society that segregates men to a military garrison limited to Trojan War technology and confining war to formal battlefields set outside the walls where women, children and men who have renounced military life, live.
There is more to it than that, the arrangement isn't stable and must be maintained. The segregation isn't hermetic and women interact with the warriors outside Carnival Time. This is where the drama and the characters weaknesses and strengths come into play.
One place Where Women's Country really feels dated is that in a society where the sexes are mostly confined to their own camps and where marriage has been abolished, there is no mention of lgbtq sex.
A thought experiment with depth and compelling characters.

The industry has long been a prime example for the workforce’s #GenderGap, but acc/to #Meta CEO #MarkZuckerberg, “masculine energy” is being sucked from the workforce, & corporations need to bring that “aggression” back.
