#Musk was not being truthful, #Rubio said. What about the >1,500 #State Dept ofcls who took early retirement in buyouts? Didn’t they count as #layoffs? He asked, sarcastically, whether Musk wanted him to rehire all those people so he could make a show of firing them again. Then he laid out his plans for reorganizing the State Dept.

Musk was unimpressed. He told Rubio he was “good on TV,” w/the clear subtext being that he was not good for much else.

#MarcoRubio was incensed. Here he was in the #Cabinet Room of the White House, the Secy of #State, seated beside the president & listening to a litany of attacks from the richest man in the world.

Seated diagonally opposite, #ElonMusk was letting #Rubio have it, accusing him of failing to slash his staff.

You have fired “nobody,” Musk told Rubio, then scornfully added that perhaps the only person he had fired was a staff member from Musk’s #DOGE.

The new ban could affect tens of thousands of #Afghans who have been cleared for resettlement in the US as #refugees or on Special Immigrant Visas because they are at risk of #Taliban retribution for working for the #US during the war.

…The #State Dept office that oversees resettlement is seeking an exemption for Special Immigrant Visa holders from the #TravelBan.…

That office, the Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts, has been told to develop a plan by April for its closure.
