Just casually playing with old #ham #msdos #packetradio software #GraphicPacket, my favorite in the 90's, in a #DosBoxX window.
I'm thrown 30 years back and thrilled to have managed to make it work with a #KISS modem and #TFKISS resident driver (a NordLink TNC2 "TheFirmware" emulator for MSDOS).
Btw, I am preaparing some real hardware (Pentium 233) to make that work on, with a legendary 1200 bauds packet-radio #BayCom modem...
I have been testing CATS.radio protocol today, setting up SDR-iGate and flashing RS41ng. Promising results!
Good reason to go pick some RS41 radiosondes, free CATS.radio transmitter inside :)

Has anybody ever used a power bank with a 12V PD câble to power a small TRX outdoors (in my case : Xiegu X6100) ?
The point is related to the possible SMPS noise.
My other option is a LiFePO4: no noise !
But for a lower weight (650g vs a 750g), I can have a 27Ah (27000mAh) power bank vs a 6Ah LiFePO4 battery.
Also, a power bank has many uses outdoors : boost a weak smartphone battery or even power a T12 soldering iron.
All feedback welcome !

end of my quest for a modern #QRP rig.
Got a used Xiegu X6100, just received it this evening (it"s 21:00 here).
Second hand, but only 2 months old, with lateral metal handles and a nifty table support.
The price was less that what many seller ask for a 2 years old unit, and the seller (a Citizen Band DXer) was very cool.
The rig seems nice, solid, except for the "feeling" of the main dial knob, a bit "light", lake some resistance.
I wonder if some of you have opinions to share on the old #TenTec Orion I (model 565).
Just bought one "for parts", with all 6 roofing filters and the auto-tuner. (Not yet received, bought it from a Radio-Club at the other end of France).
I think the "for parts" comes from the LCD screen that shows it's age (dead pixels).
Reading the manual, this rig was seriously in advance for it's timle - 2002.
For FT-8 aficionados : it is rated 100W at 100% duty cycle.

DId some of you have had first-hand experience comparing the Xiegu X-6100 to the Yeasu FT-891?
I mean the receiver.
And more specifically, in the DSP, noise reduction and #CW selectivity department.
I'm so happy with my (new to me) FTDX-10 receiver, specially in CW : my dreadfully EM polluted urban location becomes almost (almost...) workable !
I would hardly accept a modern rig to be far inferior, now !

Un truc cool dont j'ai encore jamais parlé ici, c'est #ariss, le programme #radioamateur de l'ISS. Accrochez vous à vos slips, on écoute Thomas Pesquet en direct depuis l'espace répondre à des questions d'enfants grâce à un simple talkie walkie.
On commence par la question de Noélie qui veut savoir si on pourra aller vivre dans l'espace après avoir fini de bousiller la Terre - j'ai raté les questions précédentes parce que la station était trop basse.
