Today's the 95th anniversary of the first Looney Tunes short released to theaters. Which also marks the 95th anniversary of Warner Bros. as an animation/comics presence in general.

Thanks to buyouts/mergers, along with the Looney Tunes, Warner's animation/comics library is huge. From a collage I made for my blog summarizing what they own:

Daffy first appeared in 'Porky's Duck Hunt', released on April 17, 1937. The cartoon was directed by Tex Avery and animated by Bob Clampett. 'Porky's Duck Hunt' is a standard hunter/prey pairing for which Leon Schlesinger's studio was famous, but Daffy (barely more than an unnamed bit player in this short) was something new to moviegoers: an assertive, completely unrestrained, combative protagonist.

Clampett later recalled:
"At that time, audiences weren't accustomed to seeing a cartoon character do these things. And so, when it hit the theaters it was an explosion. People would leave the theaters talking about this daffy duck."

"Coyote vs. Acme" was completed and then shelved due to Warner Bros. cost-cutting more than a year ago, much to the chagrin of its star Will Forte, who referred to it as "a delightful movie. It deserves so much better than what it got." Now you'll get the chance to decide for yourself as Ketchup Entertainment has made a deal to distribute the Looney Tunes flick, with a theatrical release expected in 2026. Here's @Deadline with all the details.

How to SAVE 2-D Animation

Toonrific Tariq talks about his experience with #TheDayTheEarthBlewUp, the trend of 2D animation being pushed out of #cinema, & some of the heart to be found in TDTEBU.

I get CG animation was new & novel when it came out. But I just dont get why hand drawn #animation, THIS far into CG existing & thriving, is rejected. Hand drawn has had decades to be honed & made beautiful. And yet, most just watch it on TV now. ..Why!?
