I looked up funny British placenames (most of them are in England). There are some crackers.

Examples:

Bell End
Bitchfield
Butthole Lane
Cockermouth
Cocks
Fanny Hands Lane
Fan Y Bîg
Fingeringhoe
Great Bottom Flash
Great Cockup
Lickey End
Pants
Piddle Valley
Pratts Bottom
Rotten Bottom
Scratch Arse Ware
Sheepy Magna
Shitterton
Slag Lane
Tickle Cock Bridge
Titty Ho
Twatt
Wetwang

BTW every one of these are real placenames.

Speaking of maps, I am once again tracing the Connecticut River to its source lake(s). I keep thinking maybe a bike packing trip following it north until the end, er, start, which is the 4th Connecticut Lake (not the first, thus the end/start confusion). Along the way there’s this weird little jag of Vermont into New Hampshire, which must have an interesting back story.

"Mar 2, 2025 #australia #geography #reforestation
Australia is home to some of the harshest deserts on Earth—scorching heat, extreme drought, and landscapes that look almost extraterrestrial. But what if these barren lands could be transformed?
In this video, we dive into one of the most ambitious reforestation projects in the world: the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor. Spanning over 10,000 km², this initiative is restoring degraded farmland, planting millions of trees, and bringing life back to one of the driest places on Earth."

Geothermal energy in Singapore? Maybe possible; who knows? 🙂

"“What is really exciting is that Singapore, despite being far away from any volcanic regions, has world-class heat flow – nearly twice the continental average... making this promising in complementing solar and nuclear power in Singapore,” Prof Tong said."

"Actually Existing Geopolitics of Urban Knowledge Production. Questioning the ‘From Anywhere’ of Urban Theorising"
By F. Governa & C. Iacovone

"the #geography of the places studied contradicts any claims of post/decolonising urban theory, of ‘urban theorising from anywhere’, of Southern, #subaltern, alternative urban perspectives, and so on."
