Speaking of maps, I am once again tracing the Connecticut River to its source lake(s). I keep thinking maybe a bike packing trip following it north until the end, er, start, which is the 4th Connecticut Lake (not the first, thus the end/start confusion). Along the way there’s this weird little jag of Vermont into New Hampshire, which must have an interesting back story.

Australia is home to some of the harshest deserts on Earth—scorching heat, extreme drought, and landscapes that look almost extraterrestrial. But what if these barren lands could be transformed?
In this video, we dive into one of the most ambitious reforestation projects in the world: the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor. Spanning over 10,000 km², this initiative is restoring degraded farmland, planting millions of trees, and bringing life back to one of the driest places on Earth."

Happy birthday to Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594) renown Flemish cartographer.
What made Mercator a great #cartographer, was in fact his abilities as a #mathematician -and like those of us scientists who feel compelled also to create art he was wasn’t hindered by his immense ability as an engraver. He produced beautiful world maps (a version of which is depicted in this print), globes, 1/n
Geothermal energy in Singapore? Maybe possible; who knows?
"“What is really exciting is that Singapore, despite being far away from any volcanic regions, has world-class heat flow – nearly twice the continental average... making this promising in complementing solar and nuclear power in Singapore,” Prof Tong said."

This is wrong on so many levels, but most of all, geographically (where's the southern hemisphere?!).
It captures perfectly the current ridiculous MAGA moment and how they perceived themselves.
If it wasn't so sadly ernestly patriotic I'd almost think it was mocking America's insular worldview and world geography ignorance.

#PhotoOfTheDay is of the marker for Shorty's Grave in Death Valley National Park. Located in Badwater Basin, you can see that the elevation on the handheld GPS shows as -258 feet! Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America. The plaque is one of the two lowest benchmarks in the NGS database, along with the nearby Dayton-Harris disk.
Located in South America, Chile shares a border with Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. It is the southernmost country in the world, the capital city is Santiago, the currency is the Chilean peso, the main language is Spanish and its population is about 19.8 million. #Geography #Chile
