I think they thought they were doing a proper #dramatic performance, not #satire or #farce. It was in one of the tiniest theatres I've ever seen; there were only 3 rows of about 8 seats each. The front row was only a meter from the stage, just enough room for people to people to walk in.
The #stage was tiny, a meter deep with nothing but a curtain as their backdrop and just a couple of props, like the chair. The performers were at the edge of the stage, within arm's reach of the audience. We were in the first row, but thankfully we were at one end of the row, so there was about 3 meters between me and Lady MacBeth. I was barely able to contain my laughter; if I had been in the center, with Lady MacBeth looking directly into my eyes while MacBeth was engaging in his business and she was delivering her monologue, I never could have kept it together.
It was one of the strangest things I've ever seen. I suppose that's why it was part of a Fringe festival.
I don't remember the name of the company that performed it, or if they called their performance something other than #MacBeth. I don't remember what bits they cut and what they performed. But Lady MacBeth giving it her all, with her #rump raised to her husband and he keeping time with it, will remain burned in my #memory until the end of my days.
If anyone else out there saw this #performance, please speak up. Sometimes I wonder if it was all just a fever #dream.

Note: slight "#mature" theme here. I'm not applying a CW - when I was a kid, this would have caused a 12-year-old to titter, but kids these days have read and seen far more explicit stuff a thousand times.
So I wanted to post something that wasn't politics, that isn't news or topical. Something amusing, maybe, and something I've not posted before. I happened to be reminded of the novel Singularity Sky by Charles Stross yesterday, which has as #inspiration for part of it the #Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
That reminded me of a Fringe experience of mine. So here it is. It won't make you rich, or smarter, or wiser, but maybe will give you a laugh.
My partner and I went to a tiny Fringe festival in a small town some years ago. It was basically a whistle stop between two cities in western Canada; I have no idea why the touring Fringe would even stop there, but it did, at least some of it.
One of the performances we saw was a version of MacBeth. It was highly #abbreviated, sort of a cross between a Reader's Digest condensed version, and what you would get if P.D.Q. Bach had an English cousin who did Shakespeare.

Blogkino: Throne Of Blood (1957)
Heute zeigen wir im Blogkino den Spielfilm Throne of Blood: Thron des Blutes (japanisch: 蜘蛛巣城, Hepburn: Kumonosu-jō, wörtlich: "Das Spinnennetz-Schloss" [Anm. Hier als Das Schloß im Spinnwebwald gelaufen]) ist ein japanischer #Jidaigeki-Film aus dem Jahr 1957, der von Akira #Kurosawa mitgeschrieben, produziert, geschnitten und inszeniert wurde, mit Spezialeffekten von Eiji #Tsuburaya. Der Film überträgt die Handlung des englischen Dramatikers William# Shakespeare in seinem Stück #Macbeth (1606) vom mittelalterlichen #Schottland ins feudale #Japan, wobei stilistische Elemente aus dem #Noh-Drama verwendet werden. In den Hauptrollen spielen Toshiro #Mifune und Isuzu #Yamada, die den Figuren Macbeth und Lady Macbeth nachempfunden sind.
Wie das #Theaterstück erzählt auch der Film die Geschichte eines Kriegers, der auf Drängen seiner ehrgeizigen Frau seinen Herrscher ermordet. Kurosawa war ein Fan des Stücks und plante mehrere Jahre lang eine eigene Verfilmung, die er jedoch zurückstellte, nachdem er von Orson #Welles' Macbeth (1948) erfahren hatte. Er änderte unter anderem das Ende, bei dem Bogenschützen Pfeile um Mifune herum schießen mussten. Der Film wurde rund um den Berg #Fuji und die #Izu-Halbinsel gedreht. Mit einem Budget von 120 Millionen Yen oder 350.000 US-Dollar (entspricht 3.797.000 Dollar im Jahr 2023) war der Film zum Zeitpunkt seiner Veröffentlichung einer der teuersten Filme, die je in Japan gedreht wurden.
Trotz der Änderung des Schauplatzes und der Sprache sowie zahlreicher kreativer Freiheiten wird Throne of Blood oft als eine der besten Verfilmungen des klassischen Theaterstücks angesehen und von der Kritik hoch gelobt. Der Film wurde mit zwei #Mainichi-Filmpreisen ausgezeichnet, darunter als bester Schauspieler für Toshiro Mifune.

Dem ist nicht viel hinzuzufügen. Muss den Film aber noch etwas setzen lassen. Ich habe lange auf einen neuen Film von Jonathan Glazer gewartet und wurde wieder auf eigentümliche Weise belohnt. Ich würde ihn aber irgendwann nochmal ansehen, aber sicherlich nicht so oft wie Under the Skin.
Zu #ChristianFriedel: den sollte man sich wenn möglich unbedingt in der atemberaubenden #MacBeth-Inszenierung am #StaatsschauspielDresden ansehen!
