I've been sitting on a draft for a blog post about how I think #NVIDIA's #DLSS is turning graphics in video games into a shitshow for over a month now

Meanwhile, I've also seen an increase in dismay over how games start to perform worse and worse while GPUs are beginning to hit a physical ceiling of how much more powerful they can get, yet games are getting worse every year

Starting to feel treating these as separate articles is gonna be hard, since it's kinda starting to dawn on me that these two phenomenons could be more interlinked than I initially thought. But maybe I'll write about NVIDIA first and the dumpster fire video game industry second and just link on to the other in kind of a two-parter

Also, it kind of vindicates my take on the whole tech from a year ago

However, with how the market for GPUs has played out over the last couple years, the vibe is so off I'm more inclined to believe it's GPU manufacturers' trying to bolster tech that they missed the mark on (e.g. ray tracing with acceptable performance levels even at the high end) I'm more inclined to believe it's an easy way for them to tout "massive performance boosts" without really investing in actual hardware improvements They just let software generate frames out of thin air, point to FPS counters jumping up by several orders of magnitude, and still charge us a premium for basically snake oil
