After three weeks using the Ottopot controller by @gerotakke, I can confidently say that I LOVE IT. With Bitwig it's like hand in glove.

The only thing that bothers me a bit is the LED brightness in my dim light studio. After some iterations, I am going to order custom stickers. I'm an Inkscape nullity but I got what I wanted from it. In the pics, my "prototype" with plain paper printed with an old inkjet. Approved! I'm ordering the stickers on Monday.

How I made the track 'Receding Airline’.

I wrote a bunch in this about messing with notes not audio, using what Bitwig call “note fx”, and the joy of doing arbitrary stuff to surprise yourself. Not sure how I went on describing this! It got long and I rewrote it many times.

Also, a little on making music using someone’s tech and then they go and Milkshake Duck… *deep sigh*

Continued thread

For #Bitwig users who are at all interested, I have been revisiting the project files on a new machine and there aren’t so many plugins that I had to reinstall. So most of what you hear is native Bitwig (notwithstanding lots of audio from elsewhere).

Broadly delay fx, often dirty ones: Valhalla, AudioThing, Unfiltered Audio.

A few instruments: I mentioned Visco drum machine. I’ve used Spitfire’s free LABS, usually piano, guitar harmonics. I’m aware there are reasons not to in the future.

For the 4 people with Faderport Classic using Bitwig on Linux

I have a Faderport Classic. It's the PERFECT transport device -- small, with only what you need to survive, and fits in my keyboard drawer beside my keyboard and mouse. But alas, it's pretty old-fashioned, and isn't supported in most places. Bitwig has never liked it, even on Windows.

But as of today, it's working with Bitwig on Linux! Here's how to set it up.

Music producers, what is your approach to adding metadata to your final audio files?

Until now, I haven’t paid any attention to the metadata in my final audio files. I understand that Bitwig’s “Info” tab allows to enter some data that will be inserted as metadata in the exported audio file. Do you use it (or the equivalent in your DAW)? Do you use something else to add more i.e. a cover?

I made a 33(!) minute long video for my album Dream Factory. It's a very psychedelic fractal kaleidoscope that is constantly changing and matches the flowy nature of the album. I'm excited to reveal what I've been spending so much time on!

Alright, I have a new laptop for reasons and am going to venture into the world of #Bitwig under Linux.

If any of you out there see this and want to tell me something, please do. :D

In the late 1900s I mucked about in UNIXes when I was on the helpdesk for a university. I made shell scripts and understood jokes about vi vs. emacs. I haven't really touched Linux this century, and I am well aware things have moved on a lot.

I'm looking at Manjaro, btw.

Yesterday I spontanously released an album. I worked on "HONEY WHEAT GOLD" for the second half of '24 and don't want to enter a demo cycle for this one. It could be described it as a soundtrack for a strangely wonderful dream and I dedicate it to my wife. Because.❤️‍🔥
