Today's fun. Second prototype. Blooming delighted that it fits between the two sidings, as I did the sidings before I knew the dimensions of the silo!

And I'm just printing off something that, in theory, would allow the couplings to swivel and keep the wagons on the track. 🤞

I'm so pleased that this 3D printer is making it easier to dump stuff straight out without for instance, having to wander around the supermarket with a vernier caliper looking for a shampoo bottle of the correct diameter.

I thought I would be fed up modelling in CAD the whole time, but I'm enjoying it, and the practical challenges of transferring the CAD design into something that prints reliably and robustly are just challenging enough to be really satisfying.

There's a lot of orthodoxy in this hobby as well, so it's nice to be able to explore something without fifty years of the dead hand of "but we always do it this way".

I think this turned out really quite nice. I now just have to figure out how to motorize the turning.
I have not used the old torch though, it wasn't as bright as I hoped it would be if I could push a bit more current/voltage through it ... Going back to the newer torch, I couldn't disassemble. But at least that one can be charged through USB-C which is nice.

If you call a design "the ultimate <something>" then by definition you shouldn't have a V2 design of the same thing.

... this here is the reason why I never call any of my designs "ultimate <something>"

Sometimes you think of the starwhale from Doctor Who and draw a little whale friend as you remember the episode. At least that is what led to the creation of this tiny whale.

I draw each of my flat 3D prints in Procreate, upload them to Maker World's "image to keychain" tool, download the file, and then print it. It's a quick way to make hand drawn art into something you can hold. I guess you could also print our your art as stickers but I enjoy the 3D prints.

The second image (video) shows my drawing process. I hope you enjoy this friend!

Got tired of ink sample vials falling over every time I reached for ink, so I printed a sample vial rack.

Not completely happy with it, though. Lots of stringing on the legs and they wobbled a bit as it printed the upper parts. I'm fairly certain it's the model or the print orientation (standing). It doesn't need to be pretty, though, just functional, and it's fine. Fits where I needed it to go, too. If this breaks I'll find a better one.

Depressed that I'm gonna have to send my #bambu cool plate supertack back.

When it actually stuck, the finish was glorious, but it's simply not reliable even with scrubbing it clean with hot soapy water, leveling it, and adding hefty brims.

Any recommendations for a smooth plate for pla, silk pla and occasional petg, for a p1s? #3dprinting
