Metzengerstein is less well known than the other two tales. Baron Frederick Metzengerstein, the last of his clan, is carrying on a long, historical feud with another family.

Frederick is gazing at an old tapestry depicting "an enormous, and unnaturally colored horse." The horse disappears from the tapestry and appears at his manor.

Frederick is obsessed and rides the beast into a blazing fire, killing himself and his family line. Frederick is also a character in the Netflix show. 🧵
