I know it's October, but this horror instance is... Like, DEAD. There's *maybe* 15 of us that consistently post here. I have no idea how many people are actually here, but it must not be very many, anymore. What on earth can we do to bring in some new blood? Anything? Oh, well.

Too bad switching instances is such a pain in the ass/akin to starting over. I appreciate everything done to run this place, but what's the point of a social media instance that isn't, well, SOCIAL?

@stina_marie Stay, and find your bubble elsewhere on the fedi. Through hashtags and a bit of effort. At least this worked for me.

@stina_marie
I hear ya, but also... 95% of the people I follow aren't on this instance. I never see a lull in my feed.

@stina_marie I treat instances more like an email address anyway. You gotta haunt the tags and create feeds to really find the freaks.

@stina_marie Even though I'm not very social even on social media I do appreciate your posts and enjoyed a lot of them.

@stina_marie
I totally understand you. I have a handful of people here who I regularly check in for and who I've also subscribed to. But unfortunately there's hardly any interaction anymore. That's why you managed to lure me over to blusky after all. And I have to admit: there's a huge difference. It's really a lot of interaction, chat and play there. I actually thought that I didn't have the capacity for another network, but I now hang out there more than here.

@YayForThat @stina_marie Come to my server - the people are kind, interact and it’s a place for metalheads, they LOVE horror 😁

@YayForThat @stina_marie
If you're getting more interactions over there, it's because of how the site is designed. If you want to see more people here, you just have to follow more people.

@jacklaridian @YayForThat I follow 602 people. I follow 666 over there. Not a huge discrepancy.
Objectively, there is WAY more interaction with less work there. Here, everyone's advice is to peruse various feeds and search and also click on notifications to *really* see the posts of people I follow. There I just... Open the app.
And most things I post there get comments and interaction. Here, I may get a few likes and maaaaybe a comment.

@stina_marie @jacklaridian

I can confirm that. And I've only been active there for about 2 weeks. I really like it. Of course I don't want to persuade anyone to (additionally) switch over, but it really is a completely different, really nice experience. I'm glad that I let myself be convinced and gave it a try.

@stina_marie @YayForThat
I tried Blue sky. I did not care for it. The 'feeds' idea sucks because if you chose to follow something you like, then the negative shows up right next to the positive, so you just get shot after shot against the topic you like. Honestly worse than Twitter used to be. 👎

@jacklaridian @stina_marie
I don't quite understand what you mean? I can't confirm that. My timeline behaves the way I want it to without me having to do anything.

@jacklaridian @YayForThat Yeah, I don't exactly understand, either?

"Feeds" on Bluesky are made by users & pull from users, keywords, &/or emojis with a lot or little customization, depending on how they're set up. So somebody set it up that way. I've made two using skyfeed.

You can choose/pin which feeds to follow, too, & not just use their defaults.

Plus you can block or mute users, &/or go to your settings and enter keywords to block. The customization makes it so I rarely see negativity.

@stina_marie @YayForThat
What I'm saying is that feeds are based on key words instead of hashtags, so every mention shows up in your feed (positive or negative).

People don't usually talk negative about something and hash tag it, so I don't see that over here.

I followed the 'MARVEL' feed and every time someone said 'MARVEL' on the site, it showed up in my feed. I know that's a divisive subject, but EVERY mention I saw was shitting on it. No thanks

@jacklaridian @YayForThat Well, in that instance I would say it's simply better to not follow the Marvel feed and instead post about it when you want to have an actual conversation. I feel like it's slightly silly to judge an entire site based on a single feed (that by default is extremely polarizing, it'd be like following a Star Wars feed, lol) but I understand how that would be less than ideal if you're a huge Marvel fan.

@stina_marie @YayForThat
I am a huge marvel fan, and a huge star wars fan. I'm also a fan of other divisive things. I don't appreciate the negativity, so I say no thanks to BlueSky. 👎

@jacklaridian @stina_marie
I've only just understood about the feeds. 😅 I don't follow any so far and my timeline is okay. I primarily see posts from people I follow.

@YayForThat @stina_marie
See, I guess if I did that I would see less negativity. I just don't see a reason to go over there if you're not going to use the feeds. That's like the big selling point. It's their hook. 🤔

@jacklaridian @stina_marie
It's kind of funny that I didn't understand the big Sellingpoint at all, yet I've become active there in the last few days and find it extremely nice. Everyone is very friendly, likes to chat and there are lots of nice games where memes and pictures are shared. That's what immediately appealed to me and has kept me there.

@YayForThat @stina_marie
I'm genuinely glad it works for you. I'm happy over here. I get a fine amount of engagement.

@YayForThat Yeah, the disconnect of how much effort is required to have genuine interaction here versus the ease of it on Bluesky is... So strange to me. People here keep giving me advice and it all involves giving more time and effort... Like, imo, it shouldn't be THAT hard to have a convo. I get what the Masto people are saying and I appreciate "making an effort" but there's a definite difference, fundamentally. And one's way more FUN 🤷

@stina_marie
It was really great here at first. More interaction than I've ever experienced on Twitter. But now it's become so sadly quiet here. And not even the people who post regularly interact. As a result, I don't really start any discussions here anymore. I hate to admit it a bit, but you're right. It IS more fun.

@stina_marie @YayForThat

I’m a much more insular person than I used to be. I find conversations in general exhausting so unless I have something to add to the conversation, I generally don’t comment. I like posts liberally to show I appreciate them, but I don’t interact as much as I should.

@stina_marie I can only speak for myself, but moving to the fedi as my main social media did a great job at weening me off other platforms but at the same time, made me re-evaluate how much I actually want to participate in social media in general.

I still find a lot of practicality in sticking around, but my day to day engagement is limited as I try to prioritize and balance it with the rest of life.
