That movie traumatized the nation.
I mean, just looking at the release date, then that statement at the end that the reality of a nuclear attack would be much much worse.

Did you not see this? It was a made-for TV movie that played for two nights and was billed as a 'family' film. Everyone in the country watched it and it wrecked us. Scary as fuck and more graphic than it had any right to be.
We weren't allowed to watch anything like this growing up. I wasn't allowed to wear pants until I was in the 8th grade.

That's.. wow. Sorry
Thank you. It was very messed up. I come from a very small town that has more churches than stop lights. God was everywhere.....in gov't, in schools, at slumber parties (remember many a prayer night around kitchen tables with friends when we were as young as 2-3 grade.

No wonder you turned in the opposite direction. I would too. I went to church, but it was a gay church, so less about judgment and more about community. Still became Atheist, but never got shunned for it. I'm aware of how lucky I am. Glad you were able to find the true you, despite the attempted brainwashing.
My younger brother and I "escaped". He's a die hard atheist now and I'm a witch. The witchcraft was so easy to come into considering I grew up around so much superstition and folklore. I don't have any gods or goddesses in my practice. I had too much of that as a kid. I will recognize the symbolism of them sometimes....like doing a 30 day meditation with Hekate in November, etc.

It is escaping, considering how many people fall victim to the indoctrination. You should both be proud of how strong-willed you are.
