Boost Your Reading Experience

The author reflects on the benefits of joining a book club, highlighting how it enhances reading through shared perspectives, accountability, and social interaction. Book clubs encourage exploration of diverse genres, promote in-depth discussions, and provide a break from everyday chaos, ultimately enriching the reading experience and fostering connections among members. Continue reading Why Join a Book Club? When is it best to be terse? Flowery?

Now you're asking.

A reader should not be a spectator, they should be a participant.

If you give them everything, then spectator is all they can be - you're denying them the chance to be part of the story. This is where the concept of "show don't tell" comes in (although that was originally for silent movies). Just show the reader, so they can interpret what's happening - become a participant.

Following this principle, terse is always better - but obviously not too terse otherwise there will be insufficient guides.

Having said all that: every reader is different, some are less good at interpreting what the words imply.

So, your choice of balance will appeal to a certain type of reader.

My approach is to sketch the outlines so the reader can do the colouring in.

#writing
