The sad thing about this map is that it's wrong. The sections in yellow in the US have a top speed of 150 MPH (241 km/h) so the US should be shown with no high speed rail on this map

Memories about things like that.
Till ´90' s , Dutch trains had a buffet on board. 6 tables with 4 seats, fresh coffee , cold drinks, snacks. Plus the long distance trains with real restaurants.
I worked 29 years in that situation. Things happened, statisticaly ¨normal¨.
One girl started the job nice. Then, in one month: 2 suicides by train, 2 fights, 2 accidents, 2 times stones thrown through the window. She did not give in. It stopped after a month. She stayed, cheerful as ever .

I'm having a chat on ABC Radio Melbourne about trains around 1.35pm AEDT (ie in ten minutes or so). You can listen in at this link...

What is the Baluch Liberation Army? @AssociatedPress has more on the militant group in Pakistan that took train passengers hostage.

Having fun writing a multi-day train itinerary for the Benelux countries today. Covers all three, plus the Coast Tram to/from Ostend.
These long distance trains were made in the 1980s. They have no Wi-Fi and can affectionately be known as bone-rattlers. Long overdue for replacement, I’ll miss the old girls when they’re gone!
You never know, I might actually get some sleep on tonight’s 10-hour journey through the countryside
