d4doome<p>Castle Minerva, a 1955 psychological spy novel by Victor Canning. A British ex-spy has to babysit a prince. Lots of moral murkiness. Bad guys doing things for comprehensible motives. d4doome<p>The Ambushers, published in 1963, Donald Hamilton’s sixth Matt Helm spy thriller. Helm has to assassinate a rebel leader and rescue an American agent. d4doome<p>Philip Atlee's The Irish Beauty Contract is a routine 1966 Joe Gall spy novel. Embittered ex-CIA man Joe Gall is now a US Government hitman. d4doome<p>Jimmy Sangster was a hugely successful screenwriter. His 1968 novel Touchfeather slots neatly into the “glamorous sexy lady spy” genre. A glamorous airline stewardess is really a spy. d4doome<p>The Dragon’s Eye is a 1969 spy novel by Scott C.S. Stone. A reporter is forced to aid the defection of a high Chinese official. Makes good use of exotic settings. Fun exciting stylish slightly sexy comics for grown-ups.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/07/the-black-pearl-modesty-blaise.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/07/the-black-pearl-modesty-blaise.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spyfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spyfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/comics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>comics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/graphicnovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>graphicnovel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/graphicnovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>graphicnovels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/PeterODonnell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PeterODonnell</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/ModestyBlaise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ModestyBlaise</span></a></p>
d4doome<p>The Bright Blue Death, a 1967 Nick Carter Killmaster spy novel. There are super-lasers and a dead scientist who has turned blue, literally. There's a splendid crazy bad girl and a fine kinky megalomaniac villain. Great pulp spy thriller stuff.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/07/nick-carter-bright-blue-death.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/07/nick-carter-bright-blue-death.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spynovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spynovel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spynovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spynovels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spyfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spyfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/vintagethriller" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagethriller</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/vintagethrillers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagethrillers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/pulpfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pulpfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/nickcarter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nickcarter</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/nickcarterkillmaster" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nickcarterkillmaster</span></a></p>
d4doome<p>I, Lucifer (1967), the third of Peter O’Donnell’s superb Modesty Blaise novels. Modesty finds herself up against Lucifer, a disturbed young man with unusual powers. He thinks he is Lucifer. The novel is clever, witty and great fun.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/06/peter-odonnells-i-lucifer-modesty.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/06/peter-odonnells-i-lucifer-modesty.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spynovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spynovel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spynovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spynovels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spyfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spyfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/PeterODonnell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PeterODonnell</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/ModestyBlaise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ModestyBlaise</span></a></p>
d4doome<p>E. Howard Hunt, Watergate conspirator and CIA agent, wrote many excellent hardboiled crime and spy novels. As David St John he wrote Diabolus in 1971. A hugely enjoyable lurid occult/spy thriller featuring drugs, satanic cults and sex orgies.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/05/e-howard-hunts-diabolus.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/05/e-howard-hunts-diabolus.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spynovel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spynovel</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spynovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spynovels</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spyfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spyfiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/occultthriller" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>occultthriller</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/occultthrillers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>occultthrillers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/EHowardHunt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EHowardHunt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/pulpfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pulpfiction</span></a></p>
d4doome<p>La Machine was the first-ever Modesty Blaise comic strip, and the first-ever Modesty Blaise story. It’s included, along with the next two adventures, in the first of the Titan Books volumes collecting the comic strips in book form. Great stuff.</p><p>I should add that Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise comics are much much better than the movie.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://vintagepopfictions.blogspot.com/2023/05/modesty-blaise-la-machine-long-lever.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">vintagepopfictions.blogspot.co</span><span class="invisible">m/2023/05/modesty-blaise-la-machine-long-lever.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/comics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>comics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/comicstrips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>comicstrips</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/PeterODonnell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PeterODonnell</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/ModestyBlaise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ModestyBlaise</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/spyfiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spyfiction</span></a></p>
d4doome<p>Francis Durbridge's The World of Tim Frazer is a 1962 spy novel based on his 1960-61 TV serial (which sadly has not survived).
