In my journey on #selfhosting and securing my VPS, I was able to setup #mTLS on #nginx , but on a Mac it’s barely usable.
Browser keeps asking for username and password to access system keychain, no matter what I do.
Am I missing something?

Hey #homelab and #selfhosting gang, I need your advice. I have a Synology DS218play that is really showing its age. It's time to upgrade but I'm not sure what to get.
Storage-wise, I'm doing just fine. Only a couple TBs. I use this mainly for storing my personal photos, Synology Drive, etc.
I'm interested in the DS723+ but I read that it's pretty locked down to Synology hardware. Is there a decent FLOSS option that doesn't make NAS maintenance my hobby?
my adventures in #selfhosting - day 89
Oh #PeerTube, you are making me do mental somersaults as I strategize about the best way to self-host my videos.
This newbie wants to ask: how many VPS’s are too many for someone who has little coding experience and has been self-hosting for just 3 months?
Fedi friends, I’m thinking of signing up for a THIRD VPS
Why?
My current setup:
5€/month Debian VPS with #YunoHost, where I’m self-hosting #GoToSocial (this account), #Friendica, #Pixelfed, #Fail2Ban and #LinkStack.
5€/month Ubuntu VPS where I am self-hosting my (upcoming) #Ghost blog (this will make me save a ton, compared to my current Ghost Pro plan).
Back to PeerTube: I could easily upgrade my #Debian VPS and install it there - the costs would be minimal and I would double my RAM and storage. But I am afraid of PeerTube’s consumption when it comes to bandwidth. As in: if I upload a video that for some reason becomes really popular, or if a bad actor decides to DDOS my channel, would that take down all my other self-hosted Fediverse instances? Since they are on the same VPS?
I could limit potential issues by having a dedicated VPS just for PeerTube.
What would you do?
And do you have recommendations for Europe-based VPS’s with affordable plans? (aside from Hostinger) I was thinking of #Hetzner…

Since using Proxmox seemed totally overkill for just using a virtualized Windows10, I reached out to Quemu & VirtManager. It has not been the easiest task in the world, almost two hours to understand the cryptic error messages and solve them. A novice at all this would have given up after the first few minutes.
Obviously, a novice would not try to virtualize an OS on a server to remotely access it, but there is still room for improvement.
I have PikaPods host my audiobook shelf and I just increase resources when I need them. Thinking about opening up mine to others but no easy way for others to cover costs so for now it's just me, but well worth it! https://www.pikapods.com/apps #SelfHost #SelfHosting @hollie @pink
Successfully updated my instance’s host from Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to 24.04 LTS.
Ran into a dependency issue after reboot, but ‘bundle install —force’ fixed it.
All is well.
I would love it if Jitsi had an annotation tool so users could draw on the screen during screen sharing.
3rd party apps for that are a good solution for me as they either seems to be for one OS or the other. One that is Mac and Windows does not work on mobile devices.
Because of this, I have to go the Zoom route. Please Jitsi, you will save me so much money each month
I’m looking into making my self hosting a bit easier; does anyone have experience with Yunohost versus Runtipi? #Selfhosting
This Week in Self-Hosted (14 March 2025)
@homeassistant #Matter support, software updates and launches, a spotlight on #Cups -- a #container update monitoring platform, and more in this week's self-hosted recap!
Having lots of fun using Delta Chat. I've set up two accounts on my mail server, one for myself and one for my husband. We're both surprised at how fast it is compared to more traditional centralised chat apps like Signal. It's so cool to be able to self-host this and not rely on centralised infrastructure that is outside of my control.
Now I just need to convince everyone I know it's really cool :)
Folks who run their own #selfhosted #git services: tell me about how your #backups work. #selfhosting #git #gitolite #forgejo #gitea #gogs
My #selfhosting journey continues. Got pissed off with my router doing a particular thing I didn't want it to and just bought a new one instead of workarounds that were going to bug me forever. Went #Ubiquiti Ridiculousy easy to set up and had all my VLANs and other config done in just a few minutes.

I see why people hate on Ansible a bit. It has it's nuances, the community modules are helpful but lack any real documentation when shit goes wrong. You can do the same thing 48 different ways.. Still great and easy, but I can understand why NixOS exists hahah
#introduction though I'm not new here, but moved to my #selfhosted #Mastodon instance half a year ago

I'm Florian , #IT/computer science student at #RWTHAachen

I'm very passionate about emergency #medicine and work as a #paramedic (Rettungssanitäter
) on the #ambulance
in #ems
.
I love water sports, be it #sailing , #diving
or #swimming
.
interesting, so pihole version 6 has gotten rid of lighttpd webserver? so my notes from last time setting things up are now useless
"it's not self hosting if it's behind a CDN" is a bullshit take.
(Should probably be #fastly instead of #cloudflare )
You can build and run open source software on your own domain and I'd call that self hosting.
Run it on a good VPS? Still self hosting even if you can't rent a rack in a datacenter or don't own fast Internet.
Your #selfhosting is still valid as long as you administer it and it's not the big socials.
Will start into Sonic 2 again later this day and try to beat my PB in Metroid Dread once again tomorrow.
Friday I will boot up my NTSC-J copy of Final Fantasy X International on my PAL PS2 with Matrix chip, using my new OSSC Pro.
