The Damsel is now in full bloom. It's her first flower, and she has put her heart into it.

Some of the flowers on the Dame (the standard rose from which the Damsel was clipped last year) were getting past their prime and were dangling at the ends of skinny branches sticking out at clumsy angles, so I have pruned those branches and brought the flowers indoors to brighten our day.
"Coat of Many Colors" rose is blooming and living up to its name.

1. My garden must be marked on some flyway map for birds — had two ducks and a huge Swainson’s hawk fly through at very scary low altitude. Certainly quieted down the chittering sparrows!
2. Tomato plants are both sporting blossoms already. I caught one of the squirrels planting a peanut in the tomato tub & have named him Jimmy.
3. Heard from both sons, & my grandson will be over later to visit.
4. Bonus: This rose is a hybrid tea, aptly named “Perfume Magic”

Roses in June colored pencil
My drawing is inspired by vibrant roses blooming in June. It's always so nice to see these roses again, as the weather gets warmer.

1. The single fully-opened creamy white rose saying “cheese” & pleading for me to take its photo. (Too rainy, grass is too puddly, it’s too high to reach. Sorry, rose.) The pic below in full bloom was taken a couple of years ago, the other is today’s.
2. Lovely to slowly open my bedroom blinds and find two hummingbirds at the feeder just outside.
3. Soggy little birds & squirrels begging at the door for bits of bread & a few peanuts. I’m not the only one craving SUN!
Another birthday gift I offer to readers here: the first rose of the season bloomed in our garden today. This is a fragrant old rose we've had since the 1980s, when a sweet elderly neighbor in New Orleans, a Black gentleman named Mouton Bickham, shared a cutting with us. For years, not knowing that the rose is called Louis Philippe, we called it the Mouton Bickham rose. I love seeing it in this hand-painted vase that my favorite aunt cherished.
