DOGE Is Pressuring Social Security to Make Another Massive Cut

#DonaldTrump & #ElonMusk want to make it harder for people to access their Social Security benefits.
newrepublic.com/post/192667/do

"The #SocialSecurity Admn might slash the telephone service that millions of retired & disabled #Americans use to apply for & access their **earned** benefits...

#Doge is pressuring the agency... and in response, the #SSA is considering ending its #phone service"

Today, I continue my crimes against humanity by proceeding with turning my old phone into a Linux server.

The software runs great after some configuration. I’ve now installed a CalDAV server (Baïkal) alongside Sharkey, both running in Docker.

My heatsinks for Raspberry Pi-sized devices arrived today! I’m still waiting for my fans before I can start designing the new 3D-printed case. I also need to figure out how to power the fans alongside the phone.

Here’s what it looks like with the heatsinks attached—ignore the black stuff on the left, it’s copper underneath, so it works really well.

Sometimes it's hard to stop ourselves from automatically checking our phones for notifications or simply ping-ponging between our favourite apps. Senior tech correspondent Adam Clark Estes for @Vox talks us through Apple's and Google's attempts at digital wellness and explains what can actually help us to limit our screen time.

There’s a yellow and red phone that also looks like a mousetrap on a background of read and yellow stripes.

Cellebrite Is Using AI to Summarize Chat Logs and Audio from Seized Mobile Phones

"The proliferation of AI through law enforcement tools already has civil liberties experts concerned. “When you have results from an AI, they are not transparent. Often you cannot trace back where a conclusion came from, or what information it is based on. AIs hallucinate," one said."

@requiem Smartphones aren't really like that... and are not great for creating. Sure, they can capture what you create (audio/video/etc) but as an instrument of creativity they are... lacking.

As a tool of consuming, yeah, they are good at that.

I wrote about this in 2010.

Ok my US friends I need some help. I'm in the UK but I've had a NYC phone number (718) for ever via Skype, which is now closing.

My MiL uses the number to call us without international call charges.

I need a recommendation for a Skype replacement that I can port the number to and who can give me a mobile app to make and receive calls on. The ability to redirect calls to my landline would be an advantage.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

Ok #vintageElectronics nerds! tell me about these things…

The “MR” designation denotes some kind of diode (it stands for Metal Rectifier, a notation hangover from before silicon/germanium diodes) and they’re obviously arranged as full bridge rectifiers

They’re in a PSU made for the British Post Office in 1972

The brown stripe seems to denote the + end, but what does the other stripe mean?
