Any #google or #gmail experts out there?

Can anyone explain why this thing shows up at my prompt in the email author window, and how do I get rid of it? Why would it even bet set to polish? My google language is Canadian English.

This is in the desktop browser window.

NB, I have Gemini Advanced installed because it came with my new Pixel 9 Pro phone.

On my usual Monday national network radio tech segment, I'll be briefly discussing the concept of "AI Agents" being pushed by #Google and other Big Tech firms, that represent an enormous escalation in the potential damage these systems can do to users by taking actual actions in browsers on the behalf of users themselves. And of course, the firms are not taking responsibility for potential resulting horrific errors and losses.

It will be interesting to see what Sundar does. No doubt he's sorely tempted to give a million or two to Trump's fascist inauguration. On the other hand, he is sure to know how unpopular this move would be with the vast majority of rank and file Googlers. The bottom line of course is: Does he care about that at all these days, while merrily firing employees and replacing crucial aspects of #Google with mediocre Artificial Stupidity substitutes. The answer to that question seems self-evident, but we can't be 100% certain of his calculus ... yet.

Google’s Gemini app is supposed to have an “Interrupt Live responses” switch in its settings.

For some reason, my switch is missing (see pic below).

This means I have to constantly tap the microphone button to go back-and-forth. Renders Gemini unusable to me.

Any ideas? I’m on an iPhone 16 Pro, running iOS 18.2.

One of the #Accessibility specialists at work shared this gem of an article with me, which I hadn't seen before:

It is not uncommon that I raise an accessibility or usability issue with a client’s design or implementation and am met with either “But #Google does this,” or “But #Apple does this.” Mostly it is the default response to any issue I raise, but it is far worse when it is a reaction to a genuine technical failure or problem real users have identified.

That response does not address the problem I may have raised. It avoids. It offloads responsibility. It declines to even try.

This is followed by a litany of #WCAG and other accessibility violations by the two behemoths.

Please do not use this post as an excuse to beat up the devs at Apple or Google. If you are doing that, you have missed the point of this post and you are being unnecessarily mean to individuals who may have no control over broader organizational decisions. Do not be that guy / person / jerk.

another episode of "politicians using child safety to hide behind spying on users with age verification algorithms"

I bet this will be heavily used for tracking people who want to make an abortion, as an example - especially in Republican states with literally medieval abortion laws
