Something good happened this year with my writing. I said goodbye to Medium and hello to @write_as.

At first Medium was lovely. Then they went down the dark side of publishing with:

1. Pay-to-win membership
2. Editor-promoted of clickbait
3. Account gatekeeping

I dive deeper in my piece. Please give it a read.

Mark W.rites · Why I Left MediumOn November 10, 2014 I published my first article on Medium. I had published other pieces elsewhere, but it was my first on this new-to...

Glad to see @write_as reopening its signups. Always wanted to try it out.

Yeah, I did tried @writefreely before, but gave up, because it was confusing to choose a WF instance. And while I did tried out some (like rant.li), I weren't satisfied, because WF lacks some features that WA has.

So, finally, I can try this thing out.

P.S. Those wondering what's the link to my blog - well it's in my profile bio, verified. Oh and you can follow the account on Fediverse -> @expertplus@write.as .

Due to various happenings *gestures vaguely at WordPress* I’m moving away from WordPress, but to what?

At first I was thinking about hand-coding or self-hosting something but these days I don’t think I’m up for it tbh.

So, any opinions on micro.blog vs write.as for a simple personal blog that has a photo or two a day, but other than that requires nothing fancy. Or recommendations for some other platform I’m not aware of?

Not partnering with trillion-dollar, people-farming, human-rights-eroding, and democracy-destroying surveillance capitalists like Meta should be the lowest of low bars when it comes to organisations that purport to work on ethical technology but, clearly, even that bar is just too fucking high for some.
