d4doome<p>André De Toth's Day of the Outlaw (1959), a fine intelligent complex 50s western. Starts as a typical "ranchers against farmers" story with a romantic triangle and becomes something quite different. Fine performance by Tina Louise.</p><p>My review: <a href="https://dfordoom-movieramblings.blogspot.com/2024/06/day-of-outlaw-1959.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dfordoom-movieramblings.blogsp</span><span class="invisible">ot.com/2024/06/day-of-outlaw-1959.html</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/50smovie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>50smovie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/50smovies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>50smovies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/1950smovie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>1950smovie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/1950smovies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>1950smovies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/westerns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>westerns</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/AndreDeToth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AndreDeToth</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/BurlIves" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BurlIves</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/RobertRyan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RobertRyan</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/TinaLouise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TinaLouise</span></a></p>

d4doome<p>The Hangman (1959) is a slightly odd but very good psychological western with Robert Taylor as a Deputy Marshal who has to bring in a wanted man but he has no idea what the fugitive looks like. Tina Louise could identify the man, but will she?</p><p>My review: <a href="https://dfordoom-movieramblings.blogspot.com/2023/11/the-hangman-1959.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dfordoom-movieramblings.blogsp</span><span class="invisible">ot.com/2023/11/the-hangman-1959.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/50smovie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>50smovie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/50smovies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>50smovies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/1950smovie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>1950smovie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/1950smovies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>1950smovies</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/classicmovie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>classicmovie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/classicmovie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>classicmovie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/goldenagehollywood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>goldenagehollywood</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/westerns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>westerns</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/MichaelCurtiz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MichaelCurtiz</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/RobertTaylor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RobertTaylor</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/TinaLouise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TinaLouise</span></a></p>
Dustin Kiyeon Chang<p>The self-righteous anger and violence has been a staple pathos for the Western genre. This tough male victimhood is as privileged and outdated as white supremacy movement that is rampant in this country. One can't deny that America is built on violence but no one wants to admit it. All highly regarded Westerns follow pretty much the same pathos - The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, etc. <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/AndredeToth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AndredeToth</span></a>'s Day of the Outlaw is no exception but it makes a hero out of <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/RobertRyan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RobertRyan</span></a>'s Blaise, a gruffy rancher without ever firing a gun. So kudos for that. Day of the Outlaw concerns a band of outlaws rolling into a small town headed by principled Bruhn who’s dying from bullet wounds. Sensing Bruhn’s death will destroy the town by thirsty &amp; lusty bandits, Blaise decides to not to be blasé and lure them into the mountains to their deaths. It’s one of the best westerns I’ve seen. <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/TinaLouise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TinaLouise</span></a> is a real beaut. Snowcapped vista also accentuates the harshness of the American west. <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/western" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>western</span></a></p>
