Àlex Ander<p>Just discovered this horror podcast by Mike Muncer with great guests. Equally entertaining and informative. <br>OCCULT Pt 1: An Introduction — The Evolution of Horror<br><a href="https://www.evolutionofhorror.com/occult-pt-1" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">evolutionofhorror.com/occult-p</span><span class="invisible">t-1</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/mikemuncer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mikemuncer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/kevinlyons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kevinlyons</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/evolutionofhorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>evolutionofhorror</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/occult" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>occult</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/satan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>satan</span></a></p>

That’s what the <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/EvolutionOfHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EvolutionOfHorror</span></a> calls it!</p>
Grrsly Adams Family Vacation<p>Been away for a bit, but I’ve been listening to the <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/EvolutionOfHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EvolutionOfHorror</span></a> podcast while I’m away. Their third series is about Folk Horror recorded 2018. The first episodes discussed Wickerman, Blood on Satan’s Claws, and Witchfinder General.</p><p>Some of their picks surprised me: BWP, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Elements of period, lore, belief, and community seem essential to me.</p><p>How do you define <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/FolkHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FolkHorror</span></a>?<br /><a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/HorrorMovies" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HorrorMovies</span></a></p>

The depth to which they delve into each horror sub-genre makes the homework of watching the movies they discuss ahead of listening a real treat if you’ve never seen them before.</p><p>I need to watch <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/TheOrphanage" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TheOrphanage</span></a>, but it’s currently unavailable to stream anywhere. Oddly, the only way to watch right now from streaming services is through rental.</p>
Grrsly Adams Family Vacation<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://queer.party/@shutyerneck" class="u-url mention">@<span>shutyerneck</span></a></span> The only reason I’d even considered the idea is a discussion during the first series on Slashers on the <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/EvolutionOfHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EvolutionOfHorror</span></a> podcast. They make an interesting argument for it as the evolution of the slasher.</p>
Walter the Wanderer<p>Kevin Lyons followed me on Letterboxd. For an <a href="https://c.im/tags/EvolutionofHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EvolutionofHorror</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/EOH" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EOH</span></a> podcast fan like me that's pretty cool</p>
paul<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.ie/@d4doome" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>d4doome</span></a></span> Oh my god this film is good. It really hit home with this particular middle-aged man! I’d never heard of it until quite recently when it was mentioned on the <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/EvolutionOfHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EvolutionOfHorror</span></a> podcast on the Body Horror season. Thought-provoking, and with an ending not easily forgotten.</p>
Grrsly Adams Family Vacation<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@john_idol" class="u-url mention">@<span>john_idol</span></a></span> I would likely never have watched it had it not been for its mention in <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/EvolutionOfHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EvolutionOfHorror</span></a> podcast.</p><p>Every episode discusses some number of movies from a genre. Early in the podcast, this is part 6 of the <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/Slasher" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Slasher</span></a> discussion.</p>
Grrsly Adams Family Vacation<p>I’m working my way through the <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/EvolutionOfHorror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EvolutionOfHorror</span></a> <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/horror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>horror</span></a> <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/podcast" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>podcast</span></a>. </p><p>As I listen to each episode, I’m going to watch the movie(s) being discussed that I’ve not yet seen.</p><p>I’m on Slashers Pt 6 which discusses <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/BrianDePalma" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BrianDePalma</span></a>’s <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/DressedToKill" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DressedToKill</span></a> (1980). I started on episode 1 and just learned that the etymology of the <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/horror" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>horror</span></a> genre stems from the BBFC’s desire to mark the films as undesirable. From <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/wikipedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wikipedia</span></a> </p><p>In 1935, the President of the BBFC Edward Shortt, wrote &quot;although a separate category has been established for these [horrific] films, I am sorry to learn they are on the increase…”</p><p><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_film#History" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_f</span><span class="invisible">ilm#History</span></a></p><p>In this respect, the genre is defined as antagonistic, much like the <a href="https://social.horrorhub.club/tags/punk" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>punk</span></a> genre.</p>
