Nala's Favoritest Films #31 - "Donnie Darko" (1979)
I so love Donnie Darko even though at times I even doubt my own commitment to sparkle motion.

En date avec moi-même ce soir (et avec Jake Gyllenhaal) : je vais voir Donnie Darko au ciné pour la deuxième fois (mais je l’ai déjà vu trouze millions de fois).

"Donnie Darko" was a how-to...
For correcting our tangent universe?
So I watched #DonnieDarko for the second time since it was first released, and it was an enjoyable #movie
I was unimpressed that first time around. I'm not sure why. I hardly remembered anything that happened in the movie. I even forgot Patrick Swayze was in it. I remembered him being in a movie where he turns out to be a pedo, but I totally forgot this was the movie.
I think first time maybe I didn't like the way the film does weird - I probably thought the scary rabbit was trying too hard - or maybe it wasn't weird enough for me, or too psuedo-deep and meaningful.
But generally, it's a good movie.
I imagine I found the ending a bit lacklustre, as I did this time. They reference Deus Ex Machina and I think by that they just mean: make up any old shit and try to make some kind of fulfilling ending.
But I'm not sure it does have a fulfilling ending. It's one of them you have to watch a few times and think about to see if certain things have a point to them.
Halloween & #DonnieDarko, the first watch of the night, & a rare perfect movie. Unique, so evocative, & so powerful. The cast, performances, soundtrack, and that ending.
A film that manages to be both mysterious & completely satisfying.
Maybe my favorite scene!
I'll say no more for those who haven't yet seen the film.
Otherwise, I'm reluctant to watch the Director's cut. It seems that many people prefer the theatrical version.

Gosh! This movie is still awesome
Having not seen it for many years, I was very afraid I wouldn't like it anymore.
But within the first few minutes...
Today, October 2, Virginia teen Donnie Darko sleepwalks to a hallucinatory meeting with Frank, a figure in a monster-like rabbit costume. Frank tells Donnie that the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds (Donnie Darko, 2001)
Can't wait to revisit this again in another 10 years and find out what my latest entirely different opinion from my last few will be. My ★★★½ review of Donnie Darko (2001) on Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/7qFTNJ #DonnieDarko #Hooptober #Letterboxd
Happy Thursday! Frank says "Hi!"
