@mcmullin I talked with the only other person wearing a mask on a recent supermarket shop.

I have BSc(Hons) and experience working in health sector and immune vulnerable people in my family. Other person was a doctor who wears a mask at work too. He said he wears a mask everywhere. Consequences of him getting #Covid would be too big for his family and for his patients.

Think of others #WearAMask #CovidIsNotOver

One of my most covid-serious friends lives in a country where top tier vaccines are not available. After almost five years of total isolation, their family has decided they've "had enough", and they are resuming normal life (against my friend's wishes & counsel). In less than 12 hours, they are going from total isolation to getting on a packed airplane (with top grade PPE) to take their family to a country where they can get the most recent vaccines.

This is courage in action.

People's CDC has started a letter-writing campaign to demand to demand that Medicare extend funding for full telehealth services by Dec 18, 2024.

Please boost as this is vital for disabled people.

actionnetwork.orgCMS Must Indefinitely Extend Full Telehealth Services Join us in urging Congress to extend telehealth services indefinitely through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Currently, funding for telehealth services through the Medicare program will end December 31, 2024. Congress must permanently fund telehealth access. Ending telehealth access will force disabled, terminally-ill, high risk, immunocompromised people into in-person visits for things that absolutely don’t require in-person exams. This will force terminally ill and high risk and immunocompromised people to get mental health services on-site. Ultimately, this affects people in rural communities who face either long distances or other challenges traveling to appointments. Telehealth access changed healthcare for the better, narrowing the gaps in health disparities between different populations. When submitting your letter, make sure to add something personal and note word limits. Letter Template I urge you to act today to extend funding telehealth services via Medicare and Medicaid. Telehealth services must not end on December 31, 2024. Telehealth service should be a permanent option for all patients, and covered by all insurance, first and foremost Medicare and Medicaid. Nearly 80% of all people have accessed telemedicine once in their lives.39% of all US adults had a telemedicine encounter in 2022. Over 67 million older adults will lose invaluable and convenient access to healthcare services. Nearly 20% of all Americans reside in rural or frontier regions. Rural Americans benefit from immediate access to healthcare services that telehealth provides. Telehealth services affect everyone and have received support from political leaders from all viewpoints. Already, the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted in full support to approve a two-year extension of telehealth policies in the Medicare program. We need the full House of Representatives and the Senate to sign their policy into law. In summary, we ask that: 1. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) must provide indefinite financial support for existing telehealth services. 2. The telehealth program at Medicare should continue to adopt policies that ensure accessible access to healthcare services through different modes of communication. I appreciate your time and consideration of this important matter!

Almost everyone has decided that they would rather suffer permanent brain damage than the social stigma of being the only one around who doesn’t want brain damage. I don’t get it.

Please be that one masked weirdo who still cares. It will give the second, third and fourth weirdos permission to care too.

The shortest press release I think I've ever seen!

"8.4% of adults in US reported they ever had #postCOVID19 condition (#PCC; also known as #longCOVID), 3.6% currently had PCC, & 2.3% currently had activity-limiting PCC"

One of those reports that keeps me up at night. I think the Irish are being more honest about this stuff than most jurisdictions. If you've ever looked into ME/CFS, you know that Long Covid is terrifying. ME/CFS creates worse QoL outcomes than terminal cancer.

> Around one in six people in Ireland have experienced long-Covid symptoms, according to a new HSE survey.
> The Follow-up After Disease Acquisition (FADA) survey also found that repeat infections lead to higher risk of the condition.

UK people, the NHS covid booster website will be closing down next Thursday 19th Dec. I booked an appointment last night online and got the booster today although I am not really eligible. I lied on the website and told them at the appointment that I live with someone with COPD and other health issues but they didn't seemed too worried

Perth pals: looks like the Christmas wave may be taking off, which fits what I've been hearing anecdotally (granted I am a hermit, so my anecdote sample size is small) :(

Edit: I've just been made aware of this new note on the wastewater page:
"A more sensitive SARS-CoV-2 test was introduced December 2024 resulting in an increase (approximately 20%) in the quantification values when compared to the previous values."
