So....I'm thinking about movies where the supernatural and technology interact. Specifically, where a supernatural entity/entities make intentional use of technology to influence/affect people and the world. That rules out anything where people use technology to view ghosts or whatever.

Time period: 1990-2009

Already in consideration:
Ringu/The Ring
Pulse (both versions)
FearDotCom

Any other suggestions, oh geniuses of the internet?

@thekimmy Ghostwatch and Event Horizon! I don’t want to spoil anything but technology is a part of each plot in different ways. Maybe not both of those, but I’d bet at least 1 of those fits the criteria and both are always worth a rewatch!

@GW_619

Thanks for the suggestions! Ghostwatch sounds really interesting. At first glance, it looks like it would be ruled out, but as I read through the plot summary, it seems like it might be right in line. I'm excited to see it and figure out where/if it fits in with my project. Thanks!

@thekimmy

@GW_619

Just watched Ghostwatch last week, I would say it definitely fits!

@thekimmy

Yeah, the VHS (or film) tape is the go-to tech here, I think.

Sinister -- a few generations of technology there

Butterfly Kisses

Cell -- depends how supernatural you suppose things are

Hm, I'm going to have to think about this some more. There are plenty of movies about cursed or malign objects but I think that's not quite what you're looking for either.

@thekimmy

Oh, and the V/H/S series is full of this. Contagious insanity spreading virally, a killer that only appears on video, I'm sure there's more there.

@thekimmy hm, Unfriended is outside your 90s/2000s time window, otherwise it'd be spot on for what you're looking for.

@jasonp

Thanks for the recommendations, Jason, but it looks like all of these are outside the time period. Much appreciated, though!

@thekimmy Fair. I missed the time range at first. I specifically checked it for Cell but of course the movie is from much later. The setting of the book is 2006 though.

Many of the V/H/S stories are not set in the same time period as the film's release, so it may be worth double-checking. _ Tuesday the 17th_ is the segment I was thinking of.

I gotta hand it to you when I saw the setup I thought it would be easy to rattle off lots of films where ghosts use tech but it is not.

@jasonp

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but the time period is for when the movies were released, not when they're set. But I really appreciate you!

@thekimmy oh, I’m way out of your time period, sorry. Never mind.

@BeachsideReader

No worries. I appreciate your wanting to help!

@brass75

Wrong time period, no use of technology by the supernatural to affect the living world. Lots of use of technology by living folks to affect the supernatural, but that's not what I'm looking for. 😆

@thekimmy One Missed Call maybe?
there is also a movie on my watchlist that i think fits this too, Ghost in the Machine (1993)

@thekimmy hellraiser if you consider the puzzle box tech, the techno-organic virus Cable has in Deadpool but I think that's presented as more horror-ish in the comics than the movies like videodrome or tetsuo the iron man, maybe a stretch & going back farther but the chessboard in the seventh seal as a tool to delay the grim reaper, event horizon the ship, and all time probably Frankenstein and bride of as a mix of supernatural and tech based sci-fi horror.

@whotookkarl

Thanks for the suggestions, but pretty much all of these are outside the time period.
