"Hey guys, I watched a movie!! Find out what I thought about it by clicking on the link below to go to my BLOG!!!"

Nah, I'm good. When are people going to stop using as nothing but a tool to link to other sites?

Just post it here. Did you like it or not? Ugh. I might be in the minority here, but I'm getting really annoyed. Like, it almost feels like an ad, and I HATE those.

@thudfactor
Oh, that wasn't a sub-toot. I wasn't talking about anyone in particular, just making the gripe in general. Cheers. 🍻

@jacklaridian Disagree. Microblogging is a terrible format for long-form articles. Even on instances that don't have a character limit—say, Cory Doctorow putting his 4,000-word blog posts up on Mastodon in their entirety—I'd still rather read them on the original website, because Mastodon frontends aren't built for that kind of longread.

Now, if your blog post is only 500 characters long, then yeah, you could have just posted that on Mastodon. Pick the right medium for the message.

@Thad Ok, I see your point. It would be nice to get a little taste here, though. Give me something to make me want to read more. I'm specifically upset by the 'click-baity' bullshit. If you liked the movie say so, then say 'I'll tell you why on my blog' or something. If you didn't like it, say so.

@jacklaridian I guess I don't see a lot of that in my feed, but I can understand why you'd get a lot more of it than I do.

Yeah, I hate stuff like that where they don't at least give you something useful in the headline or lede, enough to decide whether it's something you want to read or not. Linking to articles is fine, but don't waste my time or try to manipulate me.

@jacklaridian Yeah, clear and to the point. Like they used to teach us in the days of the Old Web.

@Thad
Exactly! Now, I know what the vibe of the review is and I can decide if I want to read more.

@jacklaridian Sorry, I get a bit theatrical at times. I'll keep it simple. 👍🏻🙂

@UKFilmNerd
Definitely not referring to you. 🍻

@jacklaridian I will take that as approval to continue my theatrical click baiting!!

😂
