Desire leads to suffering?
I am confident that the permanent deficit Schopenhauer lamented about resulting from our desires always outstripping the world’s potential to satisfy them will soon be able to be rectified by deep biological intervention that regulates the related biochemical processes that induce such incessant “irrational” craving.
A technological solution, a transhumanist Buddhism, if you will, to the problem of superfluous, prerational, destructive desire that engenders irrational consumption, addiction, conflict, waste… so that by desiring less, you suffer less.
For example, discovering what parts of the brain when activated in a certain way are able to induce/beget a sense of gratitude, allow one to fully live in the moment, and an appreciation of experience without the desire of ownership or the false need to accumulate more and more.
Desires as *false needs* leads to suffering.
